Every day women in the field of technology are making an impact in their organizations and communities. Since 1999, Women In Technology has acknowledged and celebrated these women through their Women of the Year awards, presented by Grant Thornton. In 2009, the process begins with nominations in June and builds until the awards ceremony in October.
2009 Award Categories: Is someone you know a woman in technology who leads by example in her organization and community, while inspiring others to give their all? If she meets the following qualifications, nominate her in one of the three available categories by July 24, 2009. Nominees must hold a leadership role, including budgetary responsibility, in a technology organization or hold a technology or scientific role in a non-technology entity, and have held that role for a minimum of one (1) year, in order to qualify. One woman is recognized in each of the following categories:
Co-Chairs for the 2009 Women of the Year in Technology Awards Marianne Johnson and Beth Westbrook are the co-chairs of WIT's 2009 Women of the Year in Technology Awards. This gala event recognizes the inumerable contributions women have made to the technology industry and in the state of Georgia. Marianne and Beth are responsible for heading up a team of volunteers who gather nominations, oversee the judging, and coordinate the promotion and presentation of the gala awards dinner.
Marianne Johnson is Senior Vice President of Global Technology New Product Innovation. In this role, she leads a team focused on creating and delivering new product innovation to drive growth across the Equifax Enterprise. In 2008, this team delivered outstanding year over years results fueling future innovation and realized growth. Since joining Equifax in 1996, Marianne has held a number of leadership positions. Recently, she led a global technology organization for marketing services of more than 125 associates. Her team was responsible for fulfilling the software development lifecycle and operating supercomputing parallel processing centers that deliver business intelligence solutions to customers worldwide. Prior to this global role, she served as Vice President of Fulfillment for Equifax Enabling Technologies, a multi-million dollar business that provides account acquisition, loan origination and fraud mitigation solutions to leading banks and financial institutions. Commanding a team of more than 225, Marianne led an organization that provided consultative support in the areas of project management, solution design, business operations support, quality assurance, process improvement and resource management. Under her direction, Marianne’s team consistently exceeded revenue goals and transformed Equifax’s decisioning solutions into a strategic business offering for countless customers spanning a number of industries. . During her tenure with Enabling Technologies she was recognized with two of the most coveted awards. The Outstanding Leadership Award, voted on by her staff and peers across the organization, and the a GEM Award for outstanding product innovation. A 20-year industry veteran, Marianne previously held management roles in the healthcare industry, including Advanced Receivables Strategy and Medaphis Corporation. At ARS, she was the Operations Officer responsible for launching a new division of active hospital receivables. During her tenure at Medaphis, Marianne led the consolidated business operations of four hospitals. Marianne is an active member of Technology Association of Georgia (TAG), the Hospital Financial Management Association (HFMA), and Women in Technology (WIT) where she was selected as the 2008 Woman of the Year in the Enterprise Category and now serves as a member of the board. Most recently, Marianne was honored as a Turknett Leadership Character Award Nominee. Marianne is dedicated to numerous community services and has served as an Equifax Ambassador for the United Way 06’,07’ and 08’ along with leading the technology organization for Habitat for Humanity. She is a sponsor and pilgrim of "Food for the Poor” and a founding member and steering committee lead for the Equifax Women’s Forum.
Beth leads marketing for Grant Thornton’s Atlanta office and has been with the firm for six years. She is responsible for integrating the firm’s national strategic marketing plans into the Atlanta office and for development of local office marketing strategy. Beth works closely with the local partners, managers and business development to create and implement service line and industry marketing initiatives and events. She provides quality assurance for all marketing deliverables including events, proposals, campaigns and special projects. She also leads the Atlanta office Community Action Committee. Beth’s prior experience includes managing the marketing team of Abaco PR, Inc., a technology company based in Atlanta with international operations. She also provided marketing services for two professional associations managed by the Kellen Company—the Calorie Control Council and Georgia Financial Services Association. Beth has a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from the University of Georgia. She is a member of the Technology Association of Georgia and Women of UGA. She is also a member of Women in Technology, where she served as marketing chair for the 2008 Women of the Year in Technology Awards. She works with elementary and high school students through Junior Achievement’s JA in a Day and JA Fellows programs.
