Every day women in the field of technology are making an impact in their organizations and communities. Since 1999, Women In Technology has acknowledged and celebrated these women through their Women of the Year awards, presented by Grant Thornton.

In 2008, the event is moving to the Fall.  The process begins with nominations in May and builds until the awards ceremony in September.

 

2008 Award Categories:

Is someone you know a woman in technology who leads by example in her organization and community, while inspiring others to give their all? If she meets the following qualifications, nominate her in one of the three available categories by July 11, 2008.

Nominees must hold a leadership role, including budgetary responsibility, in a technology organization or hold a technology or scientific role in a non-technology entity, and have held that role for a minimum of one (1) year, in order to qualify. One woman is recognized in each of the following categories:

  • Emerging/Small Organization - those with up to 100 employees

  • Mid-Market/Medium Organization - those with 101-1000 employees

  • Enterprise Organization - those with over 1000 employees

Co-Chairs for the 2008 Women of the Year in Technology Awards

Terry Trout and Jennifer Poole Sobocinski are the co-chairs of WIT's 2008 Women of the Year in Technology Awards. This gala event recognizes the inumerable contributions women have made to the technology industry and in the state of Georgia. Terry and Jennifer are responsible for heading up a team of volunteers who gather nominations, oversee the judging, and coordinate the promotion and presentation of the gala awards dinner.

Terry S. Trout brings more than 25 years of leadership experience to her role as vice president of customer experience for Cbeyond, where she champions the customer experience strategically across the organization aligning cross-departmental initiatives to ensure the highest level of customer satisfaction.

Ms. Trout co-founded Cbeyond's Women's Network, an organization designed to foster professional development for Cbeyond women through a variety of educational sessions and networking events; holds board positions at The Sullivan Center and with WIT – Women in Technology and is an Advisory board member for Atlanta Woman Magazine. Ms. Trout was chosen as one of Atlanta Women Magazine's Top 25 Power Women to Watch in 2006, which recognized her contribution to community and leadership activities. She was also a finalist in the Women in Technology (WIT) Woman of the Year award in 2006, and won the award in 2007.

Previously, Ms. Trout was responsible for customer care, service delivery, technical support, collections and operations training. Ms. Trout led the development of CbeyondOnlineTM, an online account management tool that simplifies bill payment and gives customers complete control of their account.  She also launched Cbeyond's community service program enabling Cbeyond employees to give back to the communities where they work and live.

Jennifer Poole Sobocinski is a Founding Partner of CarterBaldwin. She has achieved regional and national recognition for her skill and expertise in executing "C" level officer, and board of director level searches for public and private clients.  Her clients range from start-ups to Fortune 500 companies in the manufacturing, industrial, and technology sectors.

Prior to founding CarterBaldwin, Ms. Sobocinski was the leading search consultant for one of Atlanta's top search firms. She began her professional career as a Financial Advisor in the Financial Services Sector.

In addition to her involvement with Women in Technology, Ms. Sobocinski serves on the board of the Technology Executive Roundtable, and is a sponsor of the Atlanta CEO Council. Ms. Sobocinski is a graduate of Auburn University with a degree in International Business and Finance.
